ON THE DRAW - 2023 release, lyrics by Carolyn Sills

LITTLE DEATH

Looking back, it comes as no surprise
I took you for a joker in a competent disguise
Should have known that the circus would come to town
That little death you die when someone lets you down

That little death you die when someone lets you down
You’re faced with their true colors and see the markings of a clown
You hold them to your standards, they release them to the hounds
That little death you die when someone lets you down

Looking back, what gave you the right
To see them barely breathing and you’re asking for a light
Should have known that you burn it to the ground
That little death you die when someone lets you down

DONE WONDERS

If I knew you were drowning I would have jumped in
But the sun can be blinding and I know you can swim
There's been days that I’ve missed, you more than I wanted someone else
Leaving you was painful, but it's done wonders for my health

If I heard you were falling, I would have asked where
So my camera could capture you embracing the air
There's been moments I've missed out, that counted on me plus someone else
Leaving you was painful, but it's done wonders for my health

I'm built for comfort, you're built for speed
We're everything we want but nothing that we need
There's been hours I've wasted, thinking they longed for someone else
Leaving you was painful, but it's done wonders for my health

SAM MCGEE (based on the poem by Robert W. Service)

So I left my home ‘round the poles to roam in the spring of ninety-eight
For a fortune veiled in the ice and hail that would surely seal my fate
Sure the Yukon’s cold, but they spoke of gold just buried ‘neath the snow
How I thought I’d last in its frozen grasp I admit I’ll never know

How I long to be back in old Plumtree where in winters fires burned bright
How I’d give my name for a single flame to fan this Christmas night
I despise the cold but I relish gold and they both have done me in
But dear Cap you see, if you heed my plea, we won’t let the Yukon win

Close the door, you’ve been warned
Tonight’s the first night since Tennessee that I have ever been warm
Close the door, close it tight
For as sure as my name is Sam McGee I’m going to be warm tonight

To indebt a man to another’s plan is a selfish thing indeed
But a man condemned will enlist a friend if it serves a final need
With the reaper near, it’ not death I fear, but an icy grave to lay
You must find some flame to ignite this frame and you’ll finally hear me say

Close the door, you’ve been warned
Tonight’s the first night since Tennessee that I have ever been warm
Close the door, close it tight
For as sure as my name is Sam McGee I’m going to be warm tonight

On Dawson’s trail it’s forth or fail, and I know I’ll weigh you down
My appeal is cruel, that you find some fuel, on these glaciated grounds
It’s my last request and I must confess it does sound a little grim
But when you find that pyre that can house my fire, light a match and stuff me in!

Close the door, you’ve been warned
Tonight’s the first night since Tennessee that I have ever been warm
Close the door, close it tight
For as sure as my name is Sam McGee I’m going to be warm tonight

GOOD GRACIOUS ALIVE

Good gracious alive, well whaddya know
Let’s blow this pop stand, cause mares eat oats
Well I’ll be a monkey’s uncle, if you make like a tree and leave
I love it when you talk old time to me

Don’t touch that dial, just hold the phone
When the cat’s away, or when in Rome
Quit horsing around, not my cup of tea
I love it when you talk old time to me

Some girls live for sweet nothings, but I melt when you say
I’d gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today

Well son of a gun, the gang’s all here
I’ll give you the shirt off my back, if you lend me an ear
I’m over the moon, my dance card is free
I love it when you talk old time to me

WEST OF WEST AND EAST OF TOKIO (for James Hand)

If your heart can stand the world's loneliest man
He'll be where the rails no longer roll
By himself, by the store that they tried to shut down before
Where the tracks once traced old Railroad Road
West of West and East of Tokio

If you're done with his heart, every worn and weary part
Won't you send it back by parcel post
Address it to the man who's drowning on dry land
Where the tracks once traced old Railroad Road
West of West and East of Tokio

If your heart can stand the world's emptiest Hand
It waits for your mail by parcel post
Be it Slim, there's a chance he will find a new romance
Where the tracks once traced old Railroad Road
West of West and East of Tokio

DIXON TICONDEROGA

Take a letter, take a note, write it down
‘Cause I’m leaving, headed straight outta town
Will I come back? It’s hard to tell, let me think
Don’t write it down in permanent ink

Use a Dixon Ticonderoga
Get a Dixon Ticonderoga
Use a Dixon Ticonderoga so I can change my mind

Will I miss you? I don’t know, it’s hard to say
But I promise to think of you every day
You can write me anytime you feel alone
But for goodness sake don’t pick up your phone

Pick up a Dixon Ticonderoga
Get a Dixon Ticonderoga
Use a Dixon Ticonderoga like the man who would be mine

Do I love you? Well, I know you know I do
And I’ll write you just to prove that I’ll be true
But don’t quote me if one day that’s not the case
I’ll write it down so I can erase

With a Dixon Ticonderoga
Get a Dixon Ticonderoga
Use a Dixon Ticonderoga so I can change my mind

ADOBE

Somewhere out West beneath the stars, impassively it stands
A domed abode, its shadow casting moons on desert sands
One day, at home, within its walls we’ll linger peacefully
I’ll ado-you, you’ll ado-me, and then we’ll adobe

Impassively, it stands somewhere out west beneath the stars
A domed abode, it’s shadow casting moons on passing cars
We’ll wander wide and when we tire it’s waiting patiently
To ado-you, and ado-me and then we’ll adobe

ALAN BROWN

When you’re out in Colorado where the sun will shine so bright
May you come across a Cowboy on his trusty motorbike
He’s a gentleman incarnate, never one to sport a frown
Here’s hoping you cross paths with Alan Brown

Alan Brown, Alan Brown…
Here’s hoping you’ll cross paths with Alan Brown
He’s as clever as he’s kind, leathered hands and chiseled mind
Here’s hoping you’ll cross paths with Alan Brown

When you’re raging on a river or upon the trails you ride
May this mustachioed cowboy spend a moment as your guide
You’ll know they have a dance hall if he’s staying in this town
Here’s hoping you’ll cross paths with Alan Brown

Alan Brown, Alan Brown…
Here’s hoping you’ll cross paths with Alan Brown
He’s as clever as he’s kind, leathered hands and chiseled mind
Here’s hoping you’ll cross paths with Alan Brown

He’s that certain type of gentleman you’d be hard pressed to find
All the ladies want to dance with him and all their dates don’t mind
If you miss a chance to meet him you might never live it down
Here’s hoping you’ll cross paths with Alan Brown

Alan Brown, Alan Brown…
Here’s hoping you’ll cross paths with Alan Brown
He’s as kind as he is clever, chiseled mind and hands of leather
Here’s hoping you cross paths with Alan Brown
Here’s hoping you cross paths with Alan Brown
That man’s men among men, that Alan Brown

MUDDY WATER

Without you, my coffee’s just muddy water
The rain’s just wet, the clouds won’t get
There’s nothing but snow on the TV set
I just can’t shake myself awake and do what I oughta
Without you, my coffee’s just muddy water

I’m not opposed to rooster crows to get me up at dawn
But sleeping in just seems to win whenever you are gone
The bread won’t toast, the eggs won’t poach and I’m more than lonely
The bed stays cold until it holds my one and only

Without you, my coffee’s just muddy water
The rain’s just wet, the clouds won’t get
There’s nothing but snow on the TV set
I just can’t shake myself awake and do what I oughta
Without you, my coffee’s just muddy water

In the dark of night I do alright, but morning’s won’t abide
The whole routine’s in smithereens without you by my side
The milk just spills, the mail’s all bills and I’m tired of waiting
Until you roam your way back home I’m hibernating

I MEANT TO TELL YOU

I meant to tell you that I’m having a lovely time
But I’m a little bit unhooked, and every time I’ve looked
Someone’s gone and filled my wine

I meant to tell you that this evening’s been a thrill
But I feel a subtle spin from this charming room we’re in
And I’m just trying to keep still

I truly hope you’ve noticed, I’m in heaven by your side
But this little lady’s looped, this Sharon’s stoned, this Betty’s booped
I couldn’t thank you if I tried

Oh I meant to tell you that it’s been a perfect night
But I’m a little bit unstable so wait until I’m able
And I’ll thank you good and right

BOURBONING

Day is done, work is through
Not much left, not much left for minds to do
Don’t take me out, out on any scene
Just take me to, take me to some bourboning

A quiet dive that’s dimly light
A heavy pour, nice stool to sit
No TV sets, no slot machines
Just quiet folk, you and me and bourboning

THAT DOUGHNUT SONG (2022 single)
Lyrics by Carolyn Sills

I want to live in a town where it only takes the time to brew one pot of coffee for a man to get a glazed doughnut. I can put the coffee on, grab my keys and get gone, and by the time I’m back home, I’m greeted by the smell of eight cups. When I go I can’t be late, ‘cause that maple glazed won’t wait, if that guy who’s always early gets a wild hair to snatch ‘em all up. That’s why I live in a town where it only takes the time to brew one pot of coffee for a man to get a glazed doughnut.

I want to live in a town where it only takes the time to brew one pot of coffee for a man to get a glazed doughnut. I don’t need much in life, just my dog and my wife, and a couple old fashioned's in the morning when I have my first cup. It sounds funny but you see, even Del Reeves would agree, there are things in this world even sweeter than a smiling pin-up… like living in a town where it only takes the time to brew one pot of coffee for a man to get a glazed doughnut.

I want to live in a town where it only takes the time to brew one pot of coffee for a man to get a glazed doughnut. If my timing’s just right, I can hit all the lights and be back in kitchen before my honey even knows I woke up. I’m not easily amazed, but a freshly maple glazed dunked into my morning coffee can inspire any man to go nuts. That’s why I live in a town where it only takes the time to brew one pot of coffee for a man to get a glazed doughnut.

RETURN TO EL PASO (2019 release)
Lyrics by Carolyn Sills

FELEENA

Oh Feleena, don't go to Rosa’s tonight
I've got a feeling that cantina’s due for a fight
Oh Feleena, those men don’t care that you’re mine
They only care that you’re dancing one dime at a time

Oh Feleena, I know we agreed that El Paso’s our home
But there's nights that I feel like I'm drinking alone
And I see how they all turn their heads when you whirl on by
Oh Feleena, don't go to Rosa’s tonight

Oh Feleena
Why must you romance every glance that they're sending your way
Oh Feleena, when given a chance they’ll advance till you hold them at bay
Like wolves they prey...
Oh Feleena, why can't you just stay away

Oh Feleena, how many time must you see
That foul cantina keep making a fool out of me
Oh Feleena, last night I walked in to spy
You dancing too close to a cowboy with stars in his eyes

He reached for your waist just like all the rest
and my hand in a rage put a knife to his chest
and if you hadn’t pulled me away, I’d have taken his life
Oh Feleena, don’t go to Rosa’s tonight

Oh Feleena
Why must you romance every glance that they're sending your way
Oh Feleena, when given a chance they’ll advance till you hold them at bay
Like wolves they prey
Oh Feleena, why can't you just stay away

THE HANDSOME YOUNG STRANGER

I've gotten word, there's someone else now showing you the town
In spite of plans we had in place for when I came to track you down
And this, we all know, is far from fine
And you, my love, are no longer mine

I’M NOT CRYING, I’VE JUST RUBBED JALAPENOS IN MY EYES

I'm not crying
There's not much about you to warrant a gesture like that
You can see from my worn out valise I was already packed
But you chose this cantina to publicly say your goodbyes
I'm not crying, I've just rubbed jalapeños in my eyes

I'm not crying
You're not the lone rider to pull on the reins of my heart
This cantina is crawling with men who are up for the part
But you leaving without me is quite an unpleasant surprise
I'm not crying, I've just rubbed jalapeños in my eyes

So why don't you linger and share a few drinks for old times
I can't help if we're noticed by some other lover of mine
He won't be kind...

I'm not crying
Though it's been a few months since you vowed to come take me away
And fearing you might not return, my heart may have strayed
I still planned on absconding with you and becoming your bride
I'm not crying, I've just rubbed jalapeños in my eyes

So why don't you linger and share a few drinks for old times
I can't help if we're noticed by some other lover of mine
He won't be kind...

I'm not crying
I'm fond of El Paso and here's where I'm going to stay
The lights are much brighter out here, than in old Santa Fe
Though I dreamt of returning with you to those thunderous skies
I'm not crying, I've just rubbed jalapeños in my eyes

HOLD YOUR HORSES

Hold your horses

He's a good one and he could run
That's why they keep him tied up to the fence
He is a sharp one, a real son of a gun
With almost as much speed as he's got sense

I don't own him, but I've known him
Since above the fence line he could barely see
There's an outlaw out there waitin’
For this horse to come a gatin’
And I just might be the one to set him free

He's a good one and he could run
And tonight I’ll see he finally gets the chance
I’ll untie him, out to Rosa's I’ll ride 'em
Where whiskey flows and wicked women dance

Yeah, I don’t owe him, but I know him
And I know the life that he was meant to lead
Down at Rosa’s I will sell 'em and then fondly fair thee well 'em
To an outlaw who deserves this trusty steed

So hold your horses
Or this one's riding out with me tonight
Hold your horses
To keep this roan from running isn't right
Hold your horses
Brand 44 is bound for history
There's an outlaw out there waitin’
For this horse to come a gatin’
And I just might be the one to set him free

And he…
Sure is a good one
You know he could run like a shell from a shotgun
This is no horse you’ll be forgetting; he’s a good one
And I’m about to set him free

THE RANGER

He was spotted riding southward just outside New Mexico
From the Badlands he was racing back to life in El Paso
He left Feleena standing o'er a man who breathed no more
After firing the bullet that sent him to the floor

I've been told to fetch my brothers four and run the outlaw down
They say his horse is lightning fast and headed straight for town
A dozen other cowboys ride to meet us at the pass
This killer's breaths are numbered, this ride shall be his last

He came roaring down the hillside like he had no fear of death
I quickly drew my rifle, pulled the stock close to my chest
It took but moments for that horse to ride into my sight
I took a breath and then took aim to outen Outlaw’s lights

My bullet grazed him on his side and slowed the killer down
But something kept him riding, he was bent on reaching town
I aimed again and better yet, I aimed right for his chest
A single breath, a puff of smoke, and on the ground he rest

I hastily dismounted but before my boots touched sand
There was dear Feleena kneeling low over that man
His spirit weak, and cradled by two wicked arms he loved
He whispered softly to her and joined the range above

Still as night, and ever cold Feleena breathed a sigh
I've gone and killed both men I love
And for that I must die

I failed to reach her side before she grabbed the outlaw's gun
And without fear or second thought, her wicked life was done

I closed their eyes, removed my hat and quickly hung my head
I prayed for two young lovers who needlessly were dead
And also for the stranger he shot down the other night
At Rosa’s where Feleena would lure the men to fight
Back into town I'll take them to be buried side by side
Feleena and her outlaw, how they loved and how they died

Dime Stories Vol. 2 (2016 release)
All lyrics by Carolyn Sills unless when noted

BIG CANOE

I want to take you out in a big canoe
‘Til there’s miles of water ‘round me and you
And I know you can’t swim your way back to the shore
And I won’t have to chase you around anymore

I want to climb you up to the tallest tree
‘Til there’s miles or air beneath our frightened feet
And I know you’re not jumping to the forest floor
And I won’t have to chase you around anymore

I want to zip you up in my little tent
I want to plant your feet in thick cement
I want to lock you up each and every night
I want to Solo you in carbonite

I want to take you out in a big canoe
‘Til there’s miles of water ‘round me and you
And I know you can’t swim your way back to the shore
And I won’t have to chase you around anymore

EVEN VILLAINS ONCE WERE BABIES

Even villains once were babies, so don’t raise ‘em to be crazy
Read them books and give them lovin’, feed them food out of your oven
More good people is what we’re needin’, so if you can’t do that, don’t breed ‘em
Let’s not pop ‘em out like daises, for even villains once were babies

I found myself in Santa Rita, fixin’ on a drink
And found a hole to water in before I’d time to think
And the only person at the bar was sulking to herself
So I grabbed a pint and sidled up and cheersed to our good health, I cheersed to our good health

She didn’t look right at me but kept fixin’ on her beer
And made some snide remark on how I ended up in here
The moments turned to minutes, I’m fine drinking all alone
And then she raised a glass and hollered, ‘here’s to happy homes… here’s to happy homes’

She asked if I had children and I told her I had none
My dog’s the best companion and my fella’s the most fun
Then all at once she told the tale that led her life astray
And gave me this advice that I still think about today, I still think about today

Even villains once were babies, so don’t raise ‘em to be crazy
Read them books and give them lovin’, feed them food of your oven
More good people is what we’re needin’, so if you can’t do that, don’t breed ‘em
Let’s not pop ‘em out like daises, for even villains once were babies

She told me of her baby boy, born with eyes of green
And the sweetest tuft of auburn hair that she had ever seen
But he was only fourteen when he fired his first gun
That killed a man and brought the law and kept him on the run, it kept him on the run

Until he found himself in Santa Rita, fixin’ on a drink
And found a hole to water in before he’d time to think
The law they lay in waiting and they dragged him to his fate
If only she’d been there for him before it was too late, before it was too late

TINKER TO EVERS TO CHANCE

Some years before Wrigley’s romance
Was Tinker to Evers to Chance
A trio of bear cubs with lightning between gloves
A regular waltz in striped pants
The moment a hit would arise
You’d see lights go off in their eyes
When turning that double, they’re nothing but trouble
That’s Tinker to Evers to Chance

Three orphans of the West Side Grounds
The best friends of those on the mound
Twin killers with ease, just a six, four to three
Then ruthlessly gonfalon bound
The moment a hit would arise
You’d see lights go off in their eyes
When turning that double, they’re nothing but trouble
That’s Tinker to Evers to Chance
A trio of bear cubs with lightning between gloves
That’s Tinker to Evers to Chance

ROTARY PHONE BLUES

I’m feeling bare and alone, antiquated as a rotary phone
But I’m holding my own weary heart in the palm of my hand
I’m feeling sour, starting to rust
I feel as joyless as an empty school bus
But I’m holding my own weary heart in the palm of my hand

I now am fearful when I was in command
Yeah I was as eager as a lemonade stand
But now you’ve taken your heart from me
And a life without you is one I strain to see

Once there were flowers, but now they’re all dead
They’re kept in a cigar box under my bed
While I’m holding my own weary heart in the palm of my hand

CATALINA ISLAND

I saw a painting of a low flying plane
It was silver, it was night
And so I inquired as to who was onboard
And the destination of their lovely flight

Here’s what the man told me, it was the 30s, there’s was the life
As they were landing, so heavenly dressed
At the Avalon Ballroom, covered in light
And he just kept smiling, saying Catalina Island
He just kept smiling, Catalina Island

So we bought the painting, and brought it home
Where it’s hanging over our bed
With the intention of a low flying plane
Taking off nightly in our heads
And we can’t stop smiling, saying Catalina Island
We can’t stop smiling, Catalina Island

WHY ALL THIS TALK

Why all this talk, we should be kissing
Your lips can’t see the chance they’re missing
The moment’s been broke, since you spoke
What you’re saying is mighty fine
But so is your face next to mine
Your words are sweet and I’m trying to listen
Why all this talk, we should be kissing

ALONG THE PELICAN TRAIL

Black trees are burnt against a deep blue sky
An admiral fleet of pelicans go by
Bay breezes urge your arms to hold me tight
It’s clear, we’re getting drunk tonight

Our shadows stand like giants in the street
You grab my hand when by chance our fingers meet
The moon hangs proud, that rascal sun has sunk
It’s clear, tonight we’re getting drunk

BAD FOR YOU

Why am I so good at what I shouldn’t do, what is so bad for you
When in Rome, I always did as Romans do, I did it everywhere else too
I can find me trouble in the dark
All you need for fire is a spark
Why am I so good at what I shouldn’t do, what is so bad for you

Why am I so good at getting in my way, I do it almost every day
Rome’s on fire, but I just fiddle nights away, burning up my own mistakes
I can find me trouble in the dark
All you need for fire is a spark
Why am I so good at what I shouldn’t do, what is so bad for you

SCRATCHED AND WEATHERED

You’ve got this record but it no longer plays
All scratched and weathered it has seen better days
Where does the music go when it’s thrown away
You’ve got this record but it no longer plays

There’s your guitar that still has never been strung
Just like you found it in the store where it hung
What happens to the songs that it never sung
There’s your guitar that still has never been strung

Where does the music go when it’s thrown away
That little record that you no longer play

And now you have a heart that’s no longer mine
Although you swore I’d have it for all of time
Where did those feelings go since we were entwined
If you still have a heart it’s no longer mine

Where does the music go when it’s thrown away
That little record that you no longer play

HEY KID

Hey kid, where you going with that great big smile
I haven’t seen one like that in a while, hey kid
Hey kid, where you going with those big ideals
The kind that lead to getting shot in fields, hey kid

You always were too quick for this snail of a town
Making the kind of friends that end up underground

Hey kid, why’s it got to be so awful tough
Isn’t getting out alive enough, hey kid
Hey kid, how ‘bout leaving well enough alone
You can’t further break a broken home, hey kid

You always were too quick for this snail of a town
Making the kind of friends that end up underground
You’ve gone from soda pop to back seats and sex
I’d pay my last two cents to see what happens next

BETCHA DON’T WANT ME

Betcha don’t want me by myself
Fooling around, chasing the town with someone else
Betcha don’t want me all alone
Spending dimes, tying lines on telephones

Betcha that my eager heart will roam
‘Til you say you want me for your own
Betcha don’t want me by myself
Betcha don’t want me with somebody else

Betcha don’t want me out at night
Running tabs, taking cabs ‘til morning light
Betcha don’t want me being sweet
To the guys winking their eyes on Market Street

Betcha that my eager heart will roam
‘Til you say you want me for your very own
Betcha don’t want me by myself
Betcha don’t want me with somebody else

CIRCLES

He said I’m crazy, I see circles ‘round the moon
He said I can’t finish anything I seem to start
And I like to start over too soon
He said it’s only a matter of time, ‘til time is no longer your friend
And all I could think's that I wish that this evening would end

There was a fire, we built it ourselves in the street
It was me and my boys and that neighbor whose name I’ll remember next time I can’t sleep
He said it’s only a matter of time, ‘til they bring your fun to an end
And I thought it a pretty shitty thing to say to a friend

What’s the obsession with staying in line, when we’re hardly staying in touch
You keep saying it’s a matter of time, but why does time matter so much
If this was our last day alive, would you rather say you were right
Than have someone to hold as you watched it all explode in the night

ACES AND EIGHTS

My body hates me right now, but it’s working somehow
I’m on two hours sleep and my mind is convinced we’re still drinking
The sun’s relentlessly bright, as it burns out the night
Scolding by scalding to say, ‘what the hell were you thinking’

I wrote you a note on the wall of a bar down in Memphis
It read that I’ll take you back as soon as you get this
The cards in my hand haven’t changed since you leapt from the table
I’m ready to lay them down as soon as you’re able

Until then, I’m leaving it up to the Graces
Until then, I’m leaving it up the Graces
Just like Wild Bill left it all up to the eights and the aces

Bill never sat with his back to the door ‘til that evening
His eyes couldn’t believe what they weren’t seeing
I’m heading downtown knowing that is the best place to face you
It shouldn’t take awhile for the whiskey to replace you

Until then, I’m leaving it up to the Graces
Until then, I’m leaving it up the Graces
Just like Wild Bill left it all up to the eights and the aces

LOADED GUN

There must be names for men like us
Who dash through life and slide to dust
Why sit still when you can run
You twisted spring, you loaded gun

You learned to swindle and to sway
To learned to charm one’s life away
Is this your idea of fun
You wicked grin, you loaded gun

Look away, look away
Heads will roll where they may
By my eyes, what have you done
You loaded gun

There must be names for men like us
Who dash through life and slide to dust
Is this your idea of fun
You wicked grin, you loaded gun

ORIGINAL CHRISTMAS SONGS by Carolyn Sills:

George Bailey

You won me over as a little kid
Always proud of what your father did
Saving Harry down at the lake
And Mr. Gower from a grave mistake

I know that Violet has her eyes on you
And you are set on sailing oceans blue
But I'll still whisper into your bad ear
All the words I long for you to hear

George Bailey
I'll love you 'til the day I die
George Bailey
Every Christmas Eve you make me cry
Oh George Bailey

I had to wait until that fateful day
When my brother had the nerve to say
"Do me a favor George will you please
Dance with my kid sister for me"
Past the Granville house you walked me home
I wished that one day it would be our own
You said, "Mary, you want the moon?
Just say the word and I will lasso it down for you"

George Bailey
I'll love you 'til the day I die
George Bailey
Every Christmas Eve you make me cry
Oh George Bailey

I know you want to shake the dust off
This crummy little town
Maybe I could be a reason
For you to want to stick around

George Bailey
I'll love you 'til the day I die
George Bailey
Every Christmas Eve you make me cry
Oh George Bailey

GHOST REINDEER IN THE SKY

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that Saint Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads.
And Ma in her kerchief and Pa in his cap
Had settled on down for a long winter's nap

When out on the lawn it there arose such a sound
They sprang from their beds to see what was abound
When all at once a tiny sleigh and eight reindeer they saw
A-plowin' through the ragged skies and up a cloudy draw

Yippee-yi-ya, yippee-ho-ho
Ghost reindeer in the sky

Their antlers were on fire and their hooves were made of steel
Their horns were black and shiny and their hot breath they could feel
Behind the reins, a little man, so lively and so quick,
They knew right away… it must be St. Nick

More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled and shouted and called them by name:
To the top of the porch, to the top of the wall!
Now, dash away! Now Dash away! Dash away… dash away all!"

Yippee-yi-ya, yippee-ho-ho
Ghost reindeer in the sky

Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred, their coats all soaked with sweat
They're riding to deliver toys, but they ain't finished yet
For they've gotta ride all day and night to reach those girls and boys
Who promised to be good all year, and earn their precious toys

The reindeer loped on past them and St. Nick said with glee
If you want to see some presents underneath your Christmas tree
Then cowboy, change your ways today or past your house we’ll ride
With toys for good cowgirls and boys, across these endless skies

Yippee-yi-ya, yippee-ho-ho
Ghost reindeer in the sky
Yippee-yi-ya, yippee-ho-ho
Ghost reindeer in the sky
Ghost reindeer in the sky
Yippee-ho-hoooooooooooooo
